Memoriam

Michael W. Gough, known as Mike, passed away on January 13, 2015. He and his wife, Connie moved to Washington from California five years ago and lived in Blaine. They are both retired. Just recently they purchased a home in Ferndale. Mike had been actively involved in NWWCD (Northwest Washington Community of the Deaf, Bellingham); WSAD (Washington State Association of the Deaf); and engaged in chairing the DSA’19 Planning Committee. Recently, Mike and Connie were determined to enact a new state-wide organization called Washington State Deaf Senior Citizens, Inc. with another couple, Van and Ellen Scheppach of Lynden, WA. They had seen a need for Deaf seniors organization in Washington to be set up as a self-advocacy group.

Mike was a keen enthusiast in seeing that seniors are able to enjoy the twilight of their lives. He also wanted to bring Seattle to the attention of all Deaf Seniors of America registrants by winning a bid to host a DSA Conference in 2019. He and co-chair Ellen Scheppach planned to present the overall bid proposal to the annual general meeting for the endorsement on April 18, 2015 before sending it off to the DSA Board to judge which of the contending cities may host a 2019 DSA Conference. A winner will be announced at the DSA Conference in Asheville, NC. this August. Mike is dearly missed by Connie, wife of 20 years; four children – Christine, Michelle, Tim and Tom; and ten grandchildren.

Rest in peace, Mike!
